Russian PM Says Pussy Riot Have Served Their Time

From Echo Moskvy:

Dmitry Medvedev says that members of the group “Pussy Riot” have already spent enough time behind bars

The Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has confirmed that he considers it wrong that members of the punk group “Pussy Riot” are in prison – “they’ve gone to jail, and that’s enough”, but defers to the court’s jurisdiction. “You don’t need to ask me this question, you need to ask our legal structures and those that defend them. They have the right to make a statement, and I think think that they will use it, but the court has the right to consider the question on its merits”, Medvedev said at a meeting with international Olympic champions. He added that he had already expressed his opinion on the matter.

“I don’t like these people… but I wouldn’t have sent them to jail, had I been the judge. I just don’t think it’s right that they are losing their freedom. The girls have done time, and that’s enough”, said the premier, answering a question about the possibility of parole for the members of the punk group that were charged with hooliganism.

Comments from Echo Moskvy:

tkepser:

Pussy are very real heroes. It’s practically the only achievement of Putinism that people around the world know and talk about in relation to Russia. What more heroism do you need?

The slightest sniff of nothing becomes headline news.

sweta:

He was saying the exact opposite before, and now he’s turned through 360 degrees. Interesting. Are they trying to do something in the corridors of power?

aborigen63:

Who is this Dmitry Medvedev?

imaginary: (responding to above)

I dunno, some small guy.

exprompt:

Funny.

Some political nobody spoke about some other nobodies. Funny.

arheologiztomska:

Medvedev is better than no Medvedev

Tomorrow, another judge will decide to lock up all glasses-wearers and cyclists. And Dimka [short for Dmitry] will put his hands on the table and say “Well, of course, I’m against it, but we have a state ruled by law, and the courts can do what they want.”

sgabin74:

Well, it’s a long time since a new iPhone has come out. The poor lad must be tearing himself apart from boredom.

[Note: a nickname for Dmitry Medvedev is iPhonechik, because he uses an iPhone very publicly, is very active on Instagram and so on]

rethinker:

It’s clear that Putin’s ill…

soldat_russ:

Everyone has the right to their own opinion, but only a court has a right to judge someone by law.

pektin:

It seems that the prayer to the Virgin Mary worked. One of them’s fallen ill, the other one’s stepped up to fill his shoes.

[Note: the reason Pussy Riot were imprisoned was the performance of a “punk prayer” asking the Virgin Mary to rid Russia of Putin.]

What do you think? Have Pussy Riot served their time?
