Horsemeat Scandal Spreads to Russia as Ikea Withdraw Hot-Dogs

From Ridus.ru:

Ikea suspends sale of sausages in Russia

Furniture retailer Ikea has suspended the sale of sausages in all of its restaurants in Russia. As RIA Novosti report, traces of horse meat were found in product samples. The results of the meatball and sausage sample analysis were received today.

“According to the results from the ‘Control Union’ laboratory, traces of horse meat were not found in the meatballs. However, traces of horsemeat were discovered in sausage samples, which are produced by the limited liability company ‘TF Thermite'”, the company said.

At the end of February, the retailer stopped cooking meatballs in their restaurants in a number of European countries after Czech vets discovered that the pre-packaged meatballs contained horsemeat. Later, the meatballs were recalled from restaurants in Asia and the Caribbean.

At this rate, soon the furniture will be made out of pressed horsemeat.

cosmo:

Their sausages are great! Tasty, fresh, and wildly cheap :)

No, not any more. About five years ago, I could just go there, buy three hot dogs and a couple of small Swedish beers. Very tasty. Now, it’s all ruined, they’ve become rubbery, and the bread is too dry.

rulin-159:

What, is horsemeat poison now? Why is everyone banning it?

Danich:

I feel sorry for the horses.

ВсёПутём:

The horses are old, shot up with painkillers, antibiotics, and all sorts of other crap.

Lialia2012:

Are there horses produced for meat? Where did they get the horses that they’re cramming into the sausages?

DIK:

Were the sausages made out of sawdust?

interstate1976:

What’s the problem with horse meat? Why is everyone so angry? So sausages without meat are fine, but horsemeat is a problem?

Nåvl:

Horsemeat is much cheaper than meat, so the worldwide fucking-over we’ve all been getting when we buy meat has been discovered =) Every inhabitant on the planet has been paying too much for meat and meat products!

Lialia2012: (responding to above)

It’s cheaper because it’s poor quality. Old, sick animals that had lived out their useful lives, rather than being destroyed could be sent off under this arrangement. If you breed horses for meat, like cows, then it’s more expensive.
