Monument to Joseph Stalin Unveiled in Yakutia

From Echo Moskvy:

A monument to Stalin was unveiled today in Yakutsk

Local communists have been trying to make this happen for several years.

The bronze bust on a granite pedestal appeared on the premises of the “Almazy Anabara” company. The secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Kazbek Taysaev, has thanked the company’s bosses for their courage. In an address by the local division of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, he also said thank you on behalf of Gennadiy Zyuganov.

As Interfax reports, Taysaev emphasised “we need to judge the actions of historical personalities by their results, and not by the emotions they evoke. Attacks on Stalin are not stopping, because of continuing ideological aggression on Russia’s side. If we turn away from Stalin, then we’re turning away from Russia’s greatness.

Meanwhile, not everyone is happy with the monument. The head of the Moscow-Helsinki group Ludmila Alekseeva believes that it’s unacceptable.

Arguments began over the monument in 2007, when the local communists asked the republic’s authorities to designate a patch of land [for this purpose]. At the time, they argued that we need to recognise Stalin‘s military service.

The former head of Yakutia, Yuriy Zabolev, refused the request, saying that he does not consider Stalin worthy of this honour.

This is the second monument to Stalin that has been built in Yakutia in the past few years.

Don’t believe the man who said this !!!

puttup: (responding to above)

… it was probably my Grandfather who said it, before he was shot in 1937 …

findlay:

… we will never forget, we will never forgive ! Just like my cellmate said. :((

yars:

Good. The people should remember their history.

perestarok:

The descendents of those who were sent there have built a monument to Stalin to thank him for their parents’ happy childhood.

nikchimzwet886:

All’s completely clear: the goats eaten by the wolves have built a monument to he who ate them. If Zyuganov had been elected president, this sort of monument would be on every corner.

yars:

It would be a good idea if some of these idiots asked their parents/grandmothers: “when was life better? Now or then?”

smolykov:

ARE YOU STILL BUILDING MONUMENTS TO CHILD MURDERERS?

vovandimon: (responding to above)

Take any monument (or the person behind it) ALL of them were murderers.
