Tolokonnikova taken to colony in Chuvashia
Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, having begun a hunger strike over the conditions of her detention in a Mordovan colony has been transferred to a colony in Chuvashia. The rest of her punishment, according to her husband, Tolokonnikova will be incarcerated at penal colony number 2 in the town of Alatyr, Interfax reports.
The media had previously reported that they were planning to transfer her to a colony in Krasnoyarsk Krai or Sverdlovsk Oblast. It was reported that the second convicted member of Pussy Riot, Maria Alyokhina refused to have her punishment shortened as a gesture of solidarity towards Tolokonnikova.
As Ridus reported on 23 September, Tolokonnikova announced a hunger strike, claiming that she had been threatened with murder. She made a statement concerning the beginning of her hunger strike to the FSIN [Note: the Russian federal prisons service], complaining about the threats to the Investigative Committee, and asking for help from the ombudsman. The punk group member also reported in numerous complaints that convicted women are forced to work 12-16 hours a day at penal colony number 14.
In August 2012, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova was condemned to two years in a penal colony by Khamovniki court.
