General Sergey Shoigu is the Former Emergencies Minister and current Defence Minister, a post he took up in late 2012 after the dismissal of Anatoliy Serdyukov. He has a reputation for being very visible during crises, and for his hands-on management style. As a result of his work with the Emergencies Ministry, he has been awarded the Hero of the Russian Federation. An excellent linguist, Shoigu speaks nine languages.
