Weird Lights Follow Train in Unexplained Video

From Ya Plakal

What is it? A UFO?

This was taken by a Roman Konoplev, a passenger on the Nizhniy Novgorod-Izhevsk train.

Comments from Ya Plakal

smogrom:

Just a standard railway UFO: there are those that fly, and those that use the railways.

2rs:

The author’s name explains a lot to me [Note: the author’s name translates to something like “The spitting horse novel”.]

Дрын:

It’s an interactive ghost showing the driver’s previous record on this track

жЖжгучий:

Someone left their dog on the platform

jusi:

It’s not keeping its fucking distance.

Цифровой:

The soul of one of the drunken passengers is lagging behind

Chehov:

The conductor’s lagging behind

remixer:

“Konoplev, what kind of drug-addicted surname is that?” “I don’t know, Hasish Marijuanovich”

syavik:

When are people going to learn to film UFOs at 720p???

User404:

A little cat’s fallen out of the wagon, now it’s running quickly

OnTuMyC:

It’s a truism that any video with UFO in the name can’t be higher than 240p quality!

Rentable:

This is ball lightning. And the most dangerous type at that: yellow. I’ve seen this sort of thing many times in the Rostov Oblast.

Zveers:

URO – Unidentified Railway Object

chivelam:

It looks a lot like ball lightning. It’s not a well-studied phenomenon though, so fuck knows…

Nem75:

I think it’s some sort of interference effect on the CCD of a cheap camera

Herry:

Putin’s to blame for all this!!

9 bazillion dash cams in Russia that can resolve a license plate number at 15 meters and yet all the UFO/Strange Monster sightings are filmed with camera’s made in the 1950’s.

  • Anna Presman

Hasish Marijuanovich – I actually laughed out loud at that.

I wonder if it’s ball lightning, those things are crazy. I remember seeing one, but it was more round, not like this one.

    • Boris

I’m going to change my name to Hasish Marijuanovich. Has a nice ring to it.

A VERY simple effect done in After Effect… next.

rS editor Joe just told me he’s currently stuck without broadband internet, having to “get registered” in order to get service. He says he’s trying to survive on his cell phone’s data plan but can’t really update the site that way. Everyone cross your fingers and wish him positive thoughts.

      • BillBo

That’s sad :( Yes I imagine relying on cell phone plan would be pretty expensive. I’m guessing he lives in Russia? You have to ‘register’ to get the internet there?

        • YourSupremeCommander

His name is JOE, do you know of any Rusky named JOE?

          • Granted his nationality was Georgian, but he lived in Russia nonetheless:

          • Zhegezhege

He also described himself as “a man of the Russian culture”.

          • You’re right – I’m not Russian, but I do live in the former Soviet Union.

I am still working on establishing my own internet connection, but I have been able to establish a (somewhat unreliable) link to my neighbour’s connection. Apologies for the lengthy absence, and please keep your fingers crossed for a return form before too long!

      • He picked a pretty inopportune time to get stuck without broadband Internet––even moribund indoBOOM covered the MH17 story before russiaSLAM. That’s like being beaten by a dead tortoise…

Well to be fair I don’t think the porn industry in any country would be looking for non-lewd ‘actresses’. I wouldn’t think you average person in Japan has much of a view on them at all, not sure why Japan came up here either way.

Russian netizen comments are really funny! I had a good laugh just reading them. There’s a different intellectual vibe to them comments here… or I’m just new to rs.

“Spitting horse novel” – that needs to be included into some “Funniest translations dictionary” :) The surname Konoplev comes from the word “konoplya” (cannabis), and the name Roman means exactly the same thing as the adjective “roman” in English
